RISSI PALMER

As one of only five African American women to ever hit the Billboard charts in the history of country

music, Rissi Palmer continues to create a spotlight for herself and other Black women of color.

With the release of her hit single, "Country Girl" in 2007, Rissi became the first Black woman to

have a record on the Country Music charts since Dona Mason in 1987. At the time, there wasn't as

much  representation in the genre there is today and Rissi had to deal with numerous obstacles to

pursue her career in country music, but since parting ways with her label in 2010, Rissi has

redefined success on her own terms.

She has independently released three critically acclaimed albums and scored two Grammy nominations in the Best Children's Music Album category. She is also the host of her own radio show, "Color Me Country with Rissi Palmer" on Apple Music Country, where she is working to change perceptions about people of color's involvement in country music - both past and present.

Earlier this year, Rissi was one of nine artists highlighted in the new American Masters: In The

Making series (PBS) which focuses on artists whose work explores and influences American Culture

today. Directed by Dilsey Davis, Rissi's documentary, RISSI PALMER: STILL HERE, follows her on tour

and as she works on a new album, all while managing family life and the busiest professional year

she's had in a decade. The film made premiered globally on PBS in March and is now available on-

demand at pbs.org/Americanmasters. Watch the film trailer HERE.

Today, Rissi is a leading name in both the Country and Americana music genres. She has performed

at The White House, The Grand Ole Opry, New York's Lincoln Center and Apollo Theater and has

appeared on numerous national television programs, including ABC News Live, CBS Mornings, Good

Morning America and PBS NewsHour, to name a few, She is also a CMT Hot 20 Countdown

correspondent and Governor of the Recording Academy Nashville.

Rissi's latest single, “Still Here,” is a survivor’s anthem that speaks to all those who have shown

fortitude in the face of overwhelming adversity. The empowering new tune was co-written by Rissi

and country trailblazer Miko Marks (also featured on vocals) and recently peaked at #25 on the

Americana Music Charts. It's the first from her forthcoming new album set for release later this

year.

Presently, she is on tour headlining her own shows throughout the summer and will make return

appearances to several popular music festivals including the Earl Scruggs Music Festival and the

Long Road Festival in Leicestershire, England.
